It’s November 1st — And My House Looks Like the North Pole. Fight Me.

Listen… I know what you’re thinking.
It's barely November. The pumpkins are still decomposing on the porch. The Halloween candy isn’t even finished yet (well… mine is, but that’s beside the point). And yet — here I am, blasting Mariah Carey at full volume and untangling tinsel like my life depends on it.
That’s right: I am one of those people. The kind who puts up Christmas decorations the day after Halloween. 🎅
And let me tell you — the controversy is real.
🎃→🎄 The Great Holiday Crossover
There are two kinds of people in this world:
The “Too Soon!” Crowd – They believe Christmas décor should not emerge until after Thanksgiving dinner, preferably after the dishes are done and football is over.
The “It’s Already Christmas in My Heart” Crew – That’s us. The moment October ends, we hear sleigh bells. We smell cinnamon. We sense joy.
And the battlefield between these two groups? Your Facebook feed.
Every November 1st, social media becomes divided:Half of your friends are posting their perfectly lit trees and Hallmark movie setups. The other half are typing angry essays about “skipping Thanksgiving” like it’s a federal offense.
🦃 “But What About Thanksgiving?”
Look. I love Thanksgiving. I will still roast the turkey, mash the potatoes, and pass out in a gravy-induced nap like a patriotic American. But I also firmly believe Thanksgiving looks better with Christmas lights twinkling in the background.
If anything, decorating early just enhances the holiday season.
I’m not skipping Thanksgiving — I’m just extending the joy!
(And let’s be honest, the only Thanksgiving décor stores sell is “pumpkin” or “turkey in a pilgrim hat.” Meanwhile, Christmas has reindeer, sparkle, and magic. I know which one wins.)
💡 The Psychology of Early Decorating (Yes, It’s a Thing)
Here’s where I get to sound fancy for a minute:
According to psychologists, decorating early can actually make you happier.
It’s tied to nostalgia — all those warm, fuzzy memories from childhood when life felt simpler and your biggest worry was whether Santa remembered that Barbie Dreamhouse. 🎁
So when I hang that garland before the leaves finish falling, I’m not being “extra.”I’m practicing self-care. With glitter.
🎶 Why We Do It
For people like me, Christmas decorating isn’t about rushing the calendar — it’s about chasing that cozy, joyful feeling that comes with it. The lights, the smell of pine, the cocoa, the chaos of wrapping gifts with tape stuck in your hair — it all brings comfort.
The world is stressful enough. If twinkling lights in early November make you smile, why wait?
✨ The Bottom Line
So if you see my tree glowing in the window while you’re still eating leftover Halloween candy — no judgment needed.
I’m not skipping holidays.
I’m just celebrating harder.
Life is short. Hang the stockings early. Sip your peppermint mocha. And if anyone tells you it’s “too soon,” just smile and say,
“Not for me. My joy’s on a different timeline.” ❤️🎄
