HR Tip: It is an applicants market, truly.

When I worked as a Human Resource Analyst at the Oregon State Police, who was hired to implement a brand new recruiting unit into the agency, I cannot even begin to tell you the amount of times I said this in a day:

Regardless of your feelings on the matter, it IS an applicants market these days. A Captain once told me, at OSP, if an individual spends 40 to 60 or more hours of their time each week at work... and they sleep an average of 7 hours a night, that is 59 hours with their family. Why would someone want to spend the time they are away from their family doing something that brings them anxiety, and other undo stress? This was a HUGE reason for me becoming self employed. I met a really good friend at OSP, Carlene Johnson, who showed me there is more to life than a job that gives you anxiety. My PTSD was a major trigger working in another law enforcement agency also. She led by example, and I eventually followed suit, but going a different direction (kind of force). I had to be pushed into it, I wasn't going to make up my mind on my own! (Granted, we will get into the details eventually... trust me, everything has it's time and place, and DISCRIMINATING AGAINST A VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR SEXUAL ASSAULT IS NEVER OKAY.)
I had someone, Chyla Brown, tell me just tonight that by looking at where I am now compared to where I was just two months ago... I was severely held back by the typical 9-5 job. Or in my case I worked 7-4ish. But still. Same difference.
My fucking point (come on, Karmin)... is FOLLOW YOUR GUT. Do what feels right, and if something is uncomfortable, that is your bodies natural way of saying something is not okay. Granted... uncomfortability is sometimes also a sign of growth. So, just because it is HARD doesn't mean you should give up, but if something continuously does not feel right... it is that way for a reason! Do not ignore it!
Disclaimer: Do not come for me if you decide to quit your job, and things do not work out for you. This NOT a coaching post, this is simply a food for thought post!
